Introduction to Korean Culture
You can either choose Korean Culture or Korean History course. On this course
you need to read a lot of articles and present them in class. On the lessons we
discussed about culture issues, but the teacher didn't do much and let the
students to do the job. The good thing was that they have movie nights every
week, and you see Korean movies with English subtitles. After a movie you need
to write a comment about it on a course page on the Internet. You can also
attend the movie nights without attending the course, which is a good option.
The topic of this course is interesting; what kind of cultural differences do
we meet when talking to people from different cultures. We read lots of
articles from a book and presented them in class to other students (even though
everyone had read them already by themselves). As a project we interviewed
foreigners who had moved to Korea, or Koreans who have lived abroad. The
teacher read the book often aloud to students, which was quite boring. The
course is different in year 2004 than it was for us in 2003 because the teacher
changes. |
